New Leaf Launches "Wellness Wednesdays" Event Series

Series helps community members adopt healthy habits in different areas of their life, so they can be healthier and happier.

What does "wellness" mean to you? According to the World Health Organization (WHO), wellness is "a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity."

New Leaf Community Market in Half Moon Bay has launched a weekly program to support the wellness of Coastsiders with that holistic definition in mind.

Wellness Wednesdays features lectures and special activities led by local health and wellness professionals and New Leaf staff that address many dimensions of wellness, including, physical, social, emotional, intellectual and environmental. “Wellness is a dynamic process of change and growth toward personal health, and we want to help community members adopt healthy habits in different areas of their life, so they can be healthier and happier,” said Barbara ‘Bebe’ Rowlette, New Leaf Half Moon Bay’s Marketing Coordinator and program organizer.

Several of the upcoming Wellness Wednesdays address everyday environmental challenges to wellness.
On March 22, Lorna Rodriguez-Wong will give a talk about essentials oils that can protect against environmental and seasonal threat, among other benefits. On March 29, Certified Classical Homeopath Cynthia Kingsbury will give a lecture on homeopathic remedies for the allergy season, now that allergy season is in full bloom Coastside. On April 19, Certified Holistic Health Coach Stephanie Hanson’s workshop on how to detox your hygiene routine will give guidance on how to avoid common body care products that play a role in causing allergies, infertility problems, immune disorders, digestive issues, weight gain, obesity, and cancer. On April 26, Dr. Neda Moshasha, OD, will give a lecture on how to protect your eyes and vision from damage from desk and computer work and small digital screens.

A mainstay of Wellness Wednesdays is “Laugh it Off: Improv. for Wellness,” held the second Wednesday of the month. This fun event offers the opportunity to enjoy the creative joy of improvisation and laughter. “Improv. fosters mindfulness and can helps build confidence in social situations. Laughter also decreases stress, strengthens immunity and can even temporarily relieve pain,” said Rowlette.
