PG&E Workers To Visit Half Moon Bay Neighborhoods in Routine Gas Meter Inspections

Inspections are about to get underway in San Mateo County and will last through December.

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA – PG&E officials want Peninsula residents to know that routine gas meter inspections are about to get underway in the region. What's more, as impostor issues continue to pose problems, there are some things you can look for to know it's a genuine employee there on behalf of the utility company.

Workers with both PG&E and underground construction crews will begin going meter-to-meter beginning Tuesday, between the hours of 6:45 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. They will be clad in a hard hat, PG&E safety vest and carry photo identification, which they will present upon a customer’s request, according to PG&E Spokeswoman Andrea Menniti

"PG&E employees and contractors will not enter homes during these inspections, but customers may see PG&E employees or contractors on or near their properties as they access the gas meter," Menniti said. "In the event a meter cannot be accessed, PG&E will schedule a visit and inspect the meter on a future date."

Officials say it's necessary to perform these inspections regularly "to provide safe and reliable service" for Peninsula customers.

"If a person claiming to be a PG&E employee or contractor shows you his or her identification and you still feel uncomfortable, call PG&E's customer service line at 1-800-743-5000 to verify PG&E's presence in the community," Menniti said. "Inspections last about five minutes, will not affect gas service, and are scheduled to wrap up by the end of December."

If you've previously provided a current phone number to PG&E, you will receive a call prior to inspections, according to Menniti.
