Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay Relay for Life Team Raises Funds and Hopes for Cancer Patients and Families

The Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay raised over $5,000 for the American Cancer Society at the Half Moon Bay Relay for Life July 30-31.

10 Rotarians, friends, and family walked from 10 AM on July 30th to 10 AM July 31st at the Half Moon Bay Relay for Life, walking 55 miles and raising over $5,000 for the American Cancer Society. This community event brought together people whose lives have been affected by cancer – survivors, caregivers, and those who have lost loved ones. Liz Schuck, Club President who walked 7 miles commented, “This event epitomizes the best characteristics of the Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay – community involvement, fundraising for health challenges, personal commitment, fellowship, and leadership.”

Shana Reilly-Pond, Rotary Club member and leader for the Half Moon Bay event this year, is thrilled with the 13 teams who altogether raised more than $60,000 for the American Cancer Society. The Rotary Club team leaders Stacy Trevenon and Teresa Adam were onsite for most of the 24 hours and walked alongside fellow Rotarians, cancer survivors, friends and family held on the quad of Half Moon Bay High School. Rotarian Paul Wrubel, for the second year running, took the late night/early morning shift on the track and walked 15 miles this year.

The Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay is one of 34,000 clubs around the world. Rotary International’s signature cause is the eradication of polio, and other worldwide and local health related causes are central to the organization. Locally, the club’s signature cause this year is supporting disabled veterans through Purple Heart Anglers. The Half Moon Bay Club meets each Thursday for lunch at the Portuguese Center at 724 Kelly Street in downtown Half Moon Bay. http://www.rotaryofhalfmoonbay.com/
