Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay’s Night to Celebrate: Magic of the Coastside Set for April 1st

Annual fundraiser for Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay raises funds for The HEAL Project. Appetizers, dinner, magicians and auction are feature

The sixth annual Magic of the Coastside is set for Saturday evening April 1st at the IDES Hall in Half Moon Bay. The event is hosted by the Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay Foundation and raises invaluable funds to support this year’s signature cause, a new outdoor classroom for The HEAL Project and other local and international scholarships and Rotary projects.

Magic of the Coastside 2017 is a casual and fun community celebration. This year’s Mardi Gras themed party puts the “Magic” back in the event with featured magicians Suzanne! and Tom Ogden. Suzanne! is winner of the Magic Castle’s Close-Up Magician of the Year and will perform walk-around magic during the cocktail hour. Tom Ogden, winner of Magic Castle’s Parlour Magician of the Year, performs on stage after dinner and the award presentation.

The chefs from Seville Tapas (including Half Moon Bay Rotarian Catherine Yaque) will present a Mardi Gras-themed spread with touches of Spain and Half Moon Bay. Passed appetizers will be featured during the cocktail hour and include gazpacho, filo cups, manchego cheese, and vegetarian antipasto skewers. A colorful Mardi Gras salad will be followed by a buffet dinner featuring tri-tip, Cajun shrimp, Southern peas and rice, and artichokes and brussels sprouts. Strawberries and bite sized dessert plates complete the fabulous meal.

This year’s finalists for the Service Above Self Award are Duane Myers, Mike Serdy, Marc & Pat Strohlein, and Barbara Von Glahn. These dedicated volunteers have contributed many thousands of hours to support such organizations as Coastside Hope, Coastside Adult Day Health Center, Senior Coastsiders, and the AAUW.

The online auction transitions to a live auction at the event (with the opportunity for online bidders to set a maximum bid) . Auction items include unique and memorable experiences such as Dinner with an Astronaut, Farm to Table dinner at Harley Farms, a gourmet dinner and wine pairing hosted by KQED’s Leslie Sbrocco (Check Please), and Giants tickets with a meet and greet Jon Miller.
