Rotary Club of Half Moon Ends 2016-2017 With Continued Commitment to the Community: Sponsorship of New Library Room Approved

Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay announces sponsorship of room for the new Half Moon Bay Library. Recap of this year's accomplishments included.

Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay 2016-2017 Elizabeth Schuck closes out her year with an announcement that the Rotary Club Foundation Board has approved sponsorship of a room in the new Half Moon Bay Library. “We’re committed to supporting our local community as it expands its services to residents. The new library will be a showcase not just as a place for books, but for community gatherings, access to technology, literacy education, and multipurpose space that the new room will provide.” The library is scheduled to be completed in 2018.

Other accomplishments this year for the Club have included a Foundation sponsorship of a new outdoor classroom for the HEAL Project, distribution of dictionaries to every third grader on the Coastside, and partnership with the Half Moon Bay Shakespeare Company to clean up at Carter Park. The Club has attained Best Club status – recognized by the District of more than 40 Rotary Clubs in Marin, San Francisco, and San Mateo County – and past President Dianne Bobko was selected as the Rotarian of the Month for the District in June. This year, the Club awarded its 6th annual Service Above Self honor to Mike Serdy as an exemplary volunteer in the Coastside community. Club members have also been active supporters of worldwide initiatives to end disease and improve water quality. Ms. Schuck ends her year as President on June 30, with Warren Barmore slated to lead as President for 2017-2018.

The Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay is one of 34,000 clubs around the world. Rotary International’s signature cause is the eradication of polio, and the end is in sight with just three countries in the world with endemic cases. The Half Moon Bay Club meets each Thursday for lunch at the Portuguese Center at 724 Kelly Street in downtown Half Moon Bay. Learn more at http://www.rotaryofhalfmoonbay.com
