San Mateo County Airports Launch New Noise Information Website

A new San Mateo County airport noise information website has been launched regarding flights at the San Carlos and Half Moon Bay airports.

(County of San Mateo)

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA -- Pilots flying in and out of San Carlos and Half Moon Bay airports, as well as members of the public, can now get a bird’s-eye view of flight routes designed to reduce aircraft noise.

The information is available as part of a series of high definition aerial videos posted on the County's new Airport Noise Information website. which launched July 25.

The narrated videos are meant to help pilots new to the County’s two airports understand how to navigate the airspace. Even non-pilots can appreciate the beautiful aerial footage. They’re narrated to point out local landmarks and how “flying friendly” can help curb noise for those below.

“Our hope is that pilots will view the videos before they visit our airports to familiarize themselves with local knowledge and our voluntary arrival and departure routes,” Airport Manager Gretchen Kelly explained. “And the videos are just beautiful. Everybody can enjoy the view of the coast near Half Moon Bay or flying over the city of San Francisco.”

The videos are one section of the new Airport Noise Information site, https://publicworks.smcgov.org.... Visitors to the site can also find relevant material about airport noise, airport operations including data on takeoffs and landings and the County’s Aircraft Noise Management Plan.
