Band Set to Perform in Hermosa Beach Had Instruments Stolen in Las Vegas

Big Sam's Funky Nation had just finished performing the first stop of its tour when the theft happened.

HERMOSA BEACH, CA -- A band set to play in Hermosa Beach on Wednesday had its instrument stolen after performing in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Big Sam's Funky Nation had just finished playing at the LINQ casino last week when the band's van was broken into. The instrument was "well hidden" inside the van, the band said on its Facebook page.

The thief, or thieves, stole a one-of-a-kind trombone, a Lackland bass guitar and a Toakai electric guitar. The band filed a police report but left for California to continue its West Coast tour -- Las Vegas was its first stop.

The Hermosa Beach, as the saying goes, is still happening. Friends of the band have set up a GoFundMe page to raise fund to replace the instruments.

Big Sam's Funky Nation is an urban funk band from New Orleans that's led by "Big" Sam Williams, a former trombonist for the Dirty Dozen Brass Band.
