City to Host COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic: The City of Hermosa Beach will host another COVID-19 vaccine clinic on June 1 at the Community Center. It will be for people who received their first vaccine dose on May 7 at the City’s earlier vaccine clinic. Appointments should have been scheduled at the May 7 clinic. If you did not get an appointment, please reach out to the Emergency Management Coordinator at oem@hermosabeach.gov or 310-318-0340.

Community Surveys on Outdoor Dining and Other Temporary Programs Due May 31: The City of Hermosa Beach is seeking the public’s input on some of the temporary programs the City established during the COVID-19 pandemic to support Hermosa’s local businesses. These include the expanded outdoor dining and retail, the Temporary Lane Reconfiguration Project, limited live music and entertainment and outdoor fitness classes offered in public parks and on the beach. Community members are asked to provide their feedback on whether or not these temporary programs established during the pandemic should continue or what changes should be made. Please find the Community Survey on the City’s website and provide your answers. This survey will be open through May 31, 2021.

Mask Requirements Remain in Effect in California: The State Department of Public Health has determined California will keep existing mask guidance in place until June 15 when it aims to fully reopen the economy. After that, the state plans to allow fully-vaccinated Californians to go without a mask in most indoor settings. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had updated its guidelines last week to advise Americans who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 that they can stop wearing masks or maintaining social distance in most settings. But the state and L.A. County Department of Public Health chose to keep existing rules in place.

Financial Help Available: Financial help is available through the LA County Financial Navigators program. The program can help prioritize financial concerns, identify immediate action steps and make referrals to other social services and resources that may offer long-term assistance. A Navigator can guide through some of the following concerns:

  • Paying for daily expenses
  • Supplementing income
  • Paying back debt
  • Locating food and housing resources
  • Finding special services or resources for you and your family
  • How to stay well and plan ahead

Community members who live in L.A. County and are facing financial difficulties can get started with a Financial Navigator by completing a short online interest form. They can also call (800) 593-8222 for assistance in completing the form. Sign up today to get a free session!

Los Angeles County Vaccine Update: The L.A. County Department of Public Health (Public Health) is connecting businesses and workplaces needing vaccinations to County mobile units and vaccination partners throughout the community. Employers are encouraged to fill out the COVID-19 Mobile Vaccine Team Interest Form to express interest in having a mobile vaccine unit come out to your business or workplace to provide vaccines to groups of employees. The form can be found on www.VaccinateLACounty.com. COVID-19 vaccinations are available at County-run sites and many community sites without an appointment. Anyone 12 and older living or working in L.A. County can get vaccinated. For now, only the Pfizer vaccine is approved for children, so make sure to go to a site that administers the Pfizer vaccine for children and teens. Teens 12 to 17 years old need to be accompanied by a parent, guardian or responsible adult.

Los Angeles County Update: With nearly 4 million people in L.A. County that have received two doses of COVID-19 vaccine (or one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine), the L.A. County Department of Public Health (Public Health) said it has good information to understand the level of protection that fully vaccinated people have from becoming infected, getting sick, or dying from COVID-19.

Among these fully vaccinated people, 933 people were identified who tested positive for a COVID-19 infection contracted more than two weeks after they were fully vaccinated. That means that about 0.03% of all vaccinated people tested positive for COVID-19. This includes people who were tested as a matter of routine requirement by their workplace, including asymptomatic people. Of fully vaccinated people, 71 of them, or 0.002%, were hospitalized for infections contracted while fully vaccinated. And 12 people died of their infections, or 0.00036% of vaccinated County residents.

To date, Public Health identified 1,238,121 positive cases of COVID-19 across all areas of L.A. County and a total of 24,140 deaths. Testing results are available for nearly 6,672,000 individuals with 17% of people testing positive. Today's daily test positivity rate is 0.5%. There are 356 people with COVID-19 currently hospitalized and 23% of these people are in the ICU.

Please continue to follow public health experts’ recommendations to avoid spreading the coronavirus including frequent handwashing, wearing a face covering, keeping a safe distance from one another, and staying home if you are ill. Public Health has issued the following guidance during this time of increased spread: If you are mildly sick, stay home for at least seven days or until 72 hours after being fever free, whichever is longer. Call your doctor if you are concerned and/or your symptoms worsen. Individuals who are elderly, have underlying health conditions or pregnant should consider contacting their providers earlier when they are sick. More information is available here.

We are monitoring updates and sharing information about the coronavirus from trusted sources including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, California Department of Public Health, and Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
