City Launched New Card System to Make Discounted Rides Easier to Access

HERMOSA BEACH, CA – The City of Hermosa Beach, in partnership with South Bay Yellow Cab, has begun issuing Dial-a-Taxi cards that are designed to make it easier for Hermosa seniors and disabled residents of any age to obtain discounted taxi rides in the South Bay.

The City recently transitioned from a Dial-a-Taxi voucher program to a card system, eliminating the need to purchase individual vouchers that may not be used.

The Dial-a-Taxi card offers easier access to taxi rides because it is automatically reloaded with 30 rides each month and eligible residents pay the taxi driver $1 per ride. Previously, eligible residents had to purchase a non-refundable $1 voucher from the City Finance Office for each ride, and there were no refunds.

The process to order a taxi will not change, and residents should continue to contact the toll-free number at 800-829-4378 to schedule rides as needed. Taxi service is available 24-hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays.

The Dial-a-Taxi program is open to all Hermosa Beach residents who are age 62 and older and to disabled residents of any age. All rides must begin or end in Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach or any area included within the following specified boundaries:

  • El Segundo Boulevard to the north
  • Crenshaw Boulevard to the east (for purposes of medical appointments only, the east boundary will be extended to Western Avenue)
  • Pacific Coast Highway to the south (near Palos Verdes)

If a rider chooses to travel beyond these boundaries, an additional meter charge must be paid. For residents interested in a taxi card application and more information, please contact lkotero@hermosabeach.gov or call 310-318-0251. Once applications are approved, applicants will receive their card in the mail within 5-6 business days.
