As part of the City of Hermosa Beach’s efforts to assist businesses during the COVID-19 Pandemic, the City Council approved the Downtown Hermosa Beach Temporary Lane Reconfiguration Project. This project will temporarily reconfigure lanes on Hermosa Avenue between 8th Street and 14th Street, and on Pier Avenue between Hermosa Avenue and Valley Drive to allow businesses to better utilize public right-of-way under health orders that limit indoor dining and other activities. The project will temporarily close a vehicle lane in each direction through this area which will allow room for businesses to expand their on-street decks and will allow the addition of a bike lane in each direction.
The City of Hermosa Beach has contracted with PCI to perform the striping work for the project. During construction, work will take place near your property which will temporarily impact traffic and parking. Please note that other impacts from the project will include noise from construction activities and equipment. PCI will setup No Parking signs in advance of the work. Your adherence to these No Parking postings is essential to help expedite the work, minimize the disturbance, and help protect your vehicles and property from any potential damages resulting from the work. The project will also include traffic counting activities in surrounding areas, including placement of sensors in the streets and equipment related to the sensors in adjacent areas. These traffic counts will take place in the days prior to the construction as well as for a period after the construction.

Per City Council’s direction, the lane reconfiguration will be in place for a minimum of six months from implementation. The project will be reassessed near the end of that time to determine future plans.
The reconfiguration project is scheduled to begin on January 11 and construction is estimated to last 10 working days. Project updates are available on the City’s website under “Our Community”→”Quick Links” →”City Projects” →” Downtown Hermosa Beach Temporary Lane Reconfiguration”
