Hermosa Beach Hosts COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic Friday: The City of Hermosa Beach will host its second COVID-19 vaccination clinic on Friday at the Hermosa Beach Community Center at 710 Pier Avenue. For those who received their first doses at the Hermosa Beach Clinic on April 13, the City will be offering the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and individuals should have already received a second appointment time. First doses of the vaccine will be administered that same day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Community Center. Anyone age 16 or older is eligible and must make an appointment. Young people who are ages 16 and 17 should be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Hermosa Summer Camp 2021 Registration Opens May 10: As the City resumes services under updated COVID-19 protocols, Hermosa Beach’s 2021 Summer Camp Programs will open for registration beginning May 10. Hermosa Beach Library Resuming In-Person Services: The L.A. County Library system will begin its second phase of reopening by bringing in-person services to a total of 60 L.A. County Library locations, including the one in Hermosa Beach beginning Tuesday May 11. Additionally, L.A. County Library will be increasing capacity limits at reopened libraries to 75%, while maintaining physical distancing of six feet between all customers and staff.

Communitywide Reopening, Recovery and Resilience Plan to be Discussed at May 13 Study Session: The Hermosa Beach City Council will hold a Study Session at 5 p.m. on May 13 to discuss Hermosa SHINES, a communitywide reopening, recovery and resilience plan that puts a focus on the vital elements to ensure Hermosa SHINES: (Safety, Health, Infrastructure, New Technology, Economic Development and Service). Hermosa SHINES will help establish the City’s priorities for moving forward as Los Angeles County experiences a reduction in COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations along with the modifications in the Public Health Order and the state’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy that expand education services and economic and other activities. Hermosa SHINES will also help inform several upcoming City Council decisions, including the City’s 2021-22 budget, proposals to make Downtown a more welcoming retail, dining and entertainment destination and whether to continue outdoor dining and other pandemic initiatives that supported local businesses and residents. Live Music Returns to Hermosa Beach: The Hermosa Beach City Council adopted an Urgency Ordinance last week to temporarily allow limited live and recorded music at commercial establishments between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. to support businesses and musicians during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Urgency Ordinance received widespread community support in public comments provided before and during Tuesday night’s Council meeting. Several local restaurants have already hosted live music performances at their outdoor dining locations. Please see the City’s press release for more information.

City Mask Requirements Aligned With County Requirements: Hermosa Beach City Manager Suja Lowenthal signed an executive order on Friday that brings Hermosa Beach’s mask requirements into alignment with L.A. County’s new mask-wearing guidelines and will ensure the City continues to adjust its requirements in response to future changes in the L.A. County Public Health Officer Order. The County Public Health Officer Order and the City’s new executive order provide for the following:

For those that are fully vaccinated, you do NOT need to wear a mask outdoors when:

  • Alone
  • With members of your household
  • With a small group of fully vaccinated people
  • With a small group of people not fully vaccinated and not at high risk

You DO need to wear a mask outdoors when:

  • At crowded events (concerts, parades, sporting events)
  • In crowded spaces where you cannot stay six feet apart
  • In public and private settings when required by Public Health, the business, or facility

You DO need to wear a mask indoors when:

  • In public settings and businesses
  • At workplaces (customer, visitor, or employee)
  • Gathering with people not fully vaccinated (including kids) from more than one household
  • Visiting an unvaccinated person who is or lives with a person at higher risk
  • Traveling at airports and on plans, trains, public transportation

L.A. County Moves Into Less Restrictive Yellow Tier: Today, Los Angeles County moved into the yellow tier, which is the least restrictive category in the state’s color-coded reopening plan. Following are the changes in the Los Angeles County Health Officer Order:

  • Amusement/Theme Parks/Fairs can increase capacity to 35%. Fully vaccinated out of state visitors are permitted.
  • Bars that do not provide meals can operate indoors at 25% capacity or 100 people, whichever is fewer. Masks required, except when eating or drinking; drinking and eating only while seated. Tables must be at least 6 feet apart and no counter seating/service. Maximum of 6 people from one household per table; if everyone in a group is vaccinated, 6 people can sit together from up to 6 different households. TV viewing is permitted. No live entertainment permitted indoors. Outdoors tables can have a maximum of 8 persons per table from up to 3 different households; if everyone in a group is vaccinated, 8 people sit together from up to 8 different households. Live entertainment and TV viewing permitted outdoors. No counter seating/service.
  • Breweries, Wineries, Distilleries that do not serve meals can increase indoors capacity to 50% or 200 people, whichever is fewer. No live entertainment permitted indoors. These establishments will follow the same public health directives as bars for their outdoor areas.
  • Restaurants can increase capacity for indoor dining to 50% capacity with continued safety modifications. There must be 6 feet distancing between tables. Maximum of 6 people from one household per table; if everyone in a group is vaccinated, 6 people can sit together from up to 6 different households
  • Cardrooms/Racetracks/Satellite Wagering Facilities can operate indoors at 50% capacity. There must be 6-feet of distance between tables and masks are always required. Food and beverages remain banned at the tables.
  • Fitness Centers can operate indoors at 50% capacity. Masks are always required unless swimming.
  • Movie Theatres can operate at 50% capacity. Reserved seating only where each group is seated with at least 6 feet of distance between any other groups (in all directions); capacity is limited to ensure that there is at least 6 feet of distance between groups. Seating sections can be established for fully vaccinated people without 6 feet distancing requirements provided there is 3 feet of distance between these sections and other seats in the theatre. Eating is allowed in only designated areas or in your reserved seat.
  • Family Entertainment Centers can operate at 50% capacity, 75% if all guests are tested or show proof of full vaccination. Masks are required.
  • Grocery and Retail Stores capacity remains limited to 75% with continued requirement for distancing of at least 6 feet between customers.
  • Hair Salons, Barbershops and Personal Care Services can operate at 75% capacity with masks required, except for services where customers need to remove their masks. For services where customers must remove their face coverings, staff must wear a fitted N95 mask or a face covering with a face shield.
  • Museums, Zoos and Aquariums can be open indoors at 75% capacity with safety modifications.
  • Waterparks can operate at 40% capacity with safety modifications.
  • Youth and Adult Recreational Sports and Community Sporting Events can apply to Public Health for approval for athletic events, tournaments or competitions that involve more than two teams or multiple individuals. Indoor moderate and high contact sports are permitted following Collegiate Sports Protocols, which includes regular testing.
  • Live Event and Performance Indoor venues up to 1,500 guests can operate at a maximum of 25% capacity or 50% if guests are tested or show proof of full vaccination. Venues with 1,501 guests and above can operate at 10% capacity of 2,000 people; whichever is fewer or 50% capacity for tested or fully vaccinated guests.
  • Live Event and Performance Outdoor venues can expand to 67% capacity with safety modifications.

COVID-19 Vaccine Opportunities: Anyone living or working in Los Angeles County 16 and older is eligible to get vaccinated. Here are the locations closest to Hermosa Beach:

  • AdventurePlex (1701 Marine Avenue, Manhattan Beach)
    Saturday, May 8 at 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
    Vaccine: The Pfizer vaccine will be administered. AdventurePlex will only be taking walk up appointments for 1st or 2nd doses.
    Please note, if you are receiving your 1st dose, you will need to schedule your 2nd dose at another location.
  • BCHD Campus (514 N. Prospect Ave., Redondo Beach)
    South Bay Family Health Care, in partnership with Beach Cities Health District, is administering the Moderna vaccine to the public.
    Please note, South Bay Family Health Care can only schedule and provide second doses for those who have received their first dose with them.
    Eligibility: Anyone living or working in L.A. County age 18 and older.
    Vaccine: The Moderna vaccine will be administered.
    When: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
    For Teens ages 16 and 17:
    The Moderna vaccine is NOT authorized for this age group

  • South Bay Pharmacy (520 N. Prospect Ave, Suite 110, Redondo Beach)
    Eligibility: Anyone living or working in L.A. County age 18 and older.
    Vaccine: The Moderna (1st or 2nd dose) and Johnson & Johnson vaccines will be administered.
    When: Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 2 – 5 p.m. Saturdays, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

  • Los Angeles County
    Visit the County’s website to check for and to schedule an appointment for vaccination.
    If you don’t have internet access, can’t use a computer, or you’re over 65, you can call 1-833-540-0473 for help finding an appointment. Please know there may be an extended wait time to speak with an operator for help making an appointment due to high demand. County-run vaccination sites like the Forum in Inglewood are accepting walk-ins through Sunday, May 9 while supplies last.

Los Angeles County Update: The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (Public Health) has confirmed 19 new deaths and 414 new cases of COVID-19. Of the 19 new deaths reported today, five people that passed away were over the age of 80, nine people who died were between the ages of 65 and 79, two people who died were between the ages of 50 and 64, and one person who died was between the ages of 30 and 49. Two deaths were reported by the City of Long Beach. To date, Public Health identified 1,234,746 positive cases of COVID-19 across all areas of L.A. County and a total of 23,966 deaths.

As of April 30, more than 8,000,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to people across Los Angeles County. Of these, 4,988,031 were first doses and 3,045,115 were second doses. With ample supply, the County’s efforts are now focused on making it as easy as possible for everyone 16 and older to get their vaccine.
