HERMOSA BEACH – (March 18, 2021) – Hermosa Beach Mayor Justin Massey and City Manager Suja Lowenthal issued the following statements today regarding recent acts of violence and racism against the Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities and the eight lives lost in last Tuesday’s attacks in Georgia:
“We categorically condemn racism and violence, and we stand in solidarity with all members and allies of the AAPI communities in mourning the eight victims of Tuesday’s appalling deadly attacks. The recent and dramatic influx in violence towards members of the AAPI communities is unacceptable on all levels, and this attack is the latest, tragic example of reckless racist violence. We stand against hate and with the AAPI communities.” said Mayor Massey.

“As a woman and member of the AAPI communities, I am shocked and horrified at this senseless violence based on xenophobia and misogyny. We stand united with all allies of the AAPI communities in denouncing racism and hate, both as individuals and as a City. Hermosa Beach remains committed to championing diversity, equity, inclusion and respect for all – both locally and as an example across the nation,” said City Manager Lowenthal.
