HERMOSA BEACH, CA -- A Mira Costa High grad placed second in the women's division at the 39th annual Manhattan Beach 10K Run this past weekend.
Hermosa Beach resident Savannah Pio, who was a former cross country state champion, finished Saturday's race in 38 minutes, 2 seconds, ahead of last year's winner. Nathalie Higley of Redondo Beach placed first with a time of 37:55. In the men's race, Redondo Beach native Simon Schmidt won with a time of 31:35.
The Manhattan Beach 10K Run was founded in 1978 by a group of volunteers and local runners that wanted to have a race "in town." Proceeds from the race go back to the community, according to the organizers.
