Leadership Hermosa Class of '21 Improves Valley Park

LHB Class of '21 Announces Extensive Efforts to Restore and Beautify the Largest Park in Hermosa Beach.

Leadership Hermosa Beach has announced its annual class project & fundraiser, Valley for All, following the unanimous approval by the Hermosa Beach City Council on Tuesday, March 23. To help restore the most popular park within the city, Valley for All features long-term improvements to the eastern barbecue area of Valley Park, including the installation of a new entrance ramp, ground leveling throughout the perimeter, replacement of key amenities, and other necessary upgrades. Understanding the importance and critical need for outdoor spaces, Valley for All offers restored park conditions that provide a more functional, inclusive and accessible space for the entire Hermosa Beach community.

“[Valley Park is] a much, much used part of our city. We love our parks and that has not been more obvious... than over the past year,” said Councilmember, Mary Campbell during last week’s Hermosa Beach City Council meeting. “[T]hey were our place of refuge, our place of getting out of isolation and feeling separate together, and everything else in between. This is going to be a wonderful contribution.”

Working closely with the Hermosa Beach Parks and Recreation Commission, Public Works Commission, and the City’s Planning Department on project plans since the end of 2020, the Leadership Hermosa Beach Class of 2021 is committed to making as many area improvements to the extent achieved through ongoing fundraising activities slated through early May. This year’s class invites the residents, businesses, and nonprofit organizations of Hermosa Beach and the greater South Bay area to support Valley for All by visiting and donating at www.ValleyforAll.org.
The anticipated unveiling of Valley for All will take place on June 13, 2021 at Valley Park, with all project donors and sponsors invited to attend.

###
Leadership Hermosa Beach (LHB) was founded in 2003 by former Mayor Art Yoon as a community-based organization that conducts an annual leadership training program to residents in and around Hermosa Beach. The mission of Leadership Hermosa Beach is to educate, train and connect leaders for the betterment of the community. The purpose of LHB is to foster a life-long love for the City by educating existing and potential leaders on the qualities and characteristics of Hermosa Beach. Since the inception of the program, Leadership Hermosa Beach has trained members to be active community members and encouraged graduates to take leadership positions throughout the City. Many of the graduates have used the knowledge gained from Leadership Hermosa Beach to become members of City Council, commissions, Hermosa Beach City Unified School Board and nearly all service organizations within the community.

As a capstone project, each graduating LHB class is required to complete a class project which builds on the skills and knowledge gained throughout the nine-month course. The proposal is then approved by the LHB Board prior to integrating the entire class into the team for the selected project.
