McDonald's Hiring, Hoping Attract To Hermosa Beach Teens with 'Snaplications'
The company is looking to attract teens to work for the fast-food restaurant through social media app, Snapchat.

HERMOSA BEACH, CA — With the summer season gearing up, McDonald's is looking to hire approximately 250,000 employees nationwide, including here in Hermosa Beach.
The company projects 50 percent of its new hires will be between the ages of 16 and 24 years old. For many, it will be their first job, the company said. To attract teens and young millennials, whom the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics said are increasingly eschewing summer jobs for summer school, McDonald's is teaming up with Los Angeles-based Snapchat with what it calls "Snaplications."
It's a first for the company, which tested the "Snaplications' in Australia earlier this year. Starting Tuesday, Snapchat users may see a 10-second video ad of real McDonald's employees talking about the benefits of working at McDonald’s. Users can then ‘swipe up’ to instantly visit the McDonald’s web page in the app fill out an application at their local McDonald's.

“We’re always looking for new and innovative ways to find job seekers. We thought Snaplications was a great way to allow us to meet job seekers where they are – their phones,” McDonald's senior human resources director Jez Langhorn said. “As we see the younger generations seeking out their first jobs, we want to make them aware of the great opportunities available at McDonald’s, especially considering we’re committed to being America’s best first job.”
Snapchat is staying mum about its partnership with McDonald's when reached for comments by Patch, saying only that the campaign was scheduled to roll out Tuesday.

McDonald's isn't stopping at Snapchat. The company is also planning on utilizing Spotify and Hulu to reach new job seekers.
