Slater's 50/50 Burgers To Replace Mermaid Bar In Hermosa Beach
The restaurant's tagline is "we take bacon, burgers and beer seriously," a nod to their patties made with 50% ground beef and 50% bacon.

HERMOSA BEACH, CA – If you love burgers, bacon, and beer, we've got good news for you – Slater's 50/50 is moving into the former home of the iconic Mermaid bar at the end of Pier Plaza in Hermosa Beach. The restaurant's tagline is "we take bacon, burgers and beer seriously,” a nod to their hamburger patties made with 50 percent ground beef and 50 percent bacon.
The restaurant was founded in 2009 by Scott Slater, but taken over in 2016 by Michael Nakleh’s Elite Restaurant Group of Los Angeles, according to the Daily Breeze. They signed a five-year lease to take over the prime beachfront location. The burger joint opened its first location in Anaheim Hills, but has now expanded to Pasadena, Rancho Cucamonga, and Huntington Beach. It has been featured on several food and travel shows, the Daily Breeze reported.
“We’re looking to rapidly expand with a corporate location and franchise locations within the next few years,” Nakleh told Daily Breeze.

The chain hopes to open in Hermosa Beach by mid- to late April, depending on the final design which is currently in the preliminary stage, Nakleh said. The previous owners had done some renovations before unexpectedly closing during Labor Day weekend last year.
Nakleh told the Daily Breeze they plan to keep the “old-school vibe.”
