Window-Smashing Suspect Busted In Hermosa Beach: Police

Officers were alerted and arrested a man, who allegedly was breaking windows at the area community center.

HERMOSA BEACH, CA — Citizen tips led to a man being arrested last week, after a brief chase and struggle, for allegedly smashing windows at the Hermosa Beach Community Center, according to authorities.

Numerous calls from residents were logged Thursday at about 9 p.m. reporting a male in dark clothing was breaking windows at the facility at 710 Pier Ave., the Hermosa Beach Police Department said.

Arriving officers spotted the individual, but he took off running despite the police identifying themselves and ordering him to halt, the agency said.

"The subject refused to stop, while shoving his left hand in his pocket while running, as if he were concealing an object," police said. "After a short foot-chase, officers caught the subject and tried to place him under arrest. The subject fought against officers and was eventually taken into custody for felony vandalism."

The suspect, who was not identified, was arrested on suspicion of vandalism, along with several outstanding warrants, and was transferred to another agency, officers said.
