College Ready 9-12 With Los Angeles International Charter High School

Check out what we're doing to support our college-going students and families!

Planning and Applying for college is hard enough, without adding the extra strain of having to research every step before you take it! Applications! Personal Statements! Common Apps! A-G Requirements! SAT's! It's enough to make anyone's head spin!

Los Angeles International Charter High School (LAICHS) is helping to take the hard work out of getting their students and families to higher education. Darlene Hernandez, a Highland Park native and LAICHS's remarkable college and career counselor, is taking the hometown approach to getting students into the universities of their choice with town-hall style college advising meetings for LAICHS families. In her family meetings, Hernandez will be discussing the exact steps needed at every stage of high school--from brand new, incoming freshmen, all the way to seniors ready to stretch their wings! Research from the University of Washington indicates that students whose parents take an early and very active role in creating the support and expectation that their children will attend college or university are 81% more likely to reach those goals. LAICHS is committed to creating a bridge for parents to engage in promoting college thinking in their students by making the college journey easier for families to navigate, especially for first-generation college families.

As part of LAICHS's multi-directional college and career approach, all students are enrolled in a grade-specific College Prep course where they will have the opportunity to explore career paths, colleges, rigorous SAT Prep, and topics like Financial Aid and develop essential skills for college and life. Students on campus are excited to explore their options and appreciate the individualized, small school attention they get at their breezy, hilltop campus overlooking Hermon, Highland Park and Los Angeles as far as the eye can see.
