Local Artistic Heritage Gets Boost at Final York Park Meeting

Native plants, Arroyo stone, earth tones. Mural wall, mini library, art gallery. Chess tables, amphitheater, exercise equipment. Those are just a few of the elements that are likely to be part of the final plan for York Park, the latest addition to L.A.’s so-called “50 Parks Initiative,” located on a quarter-acre piece of vacant land on the corner of York Boulevard and Avenue 50, near the border of Highland Park and Eagle Rock. 

The third and final community meeting to discuss and design the park was held at Buchanan Elementary School Tuesday night. Organized by the office of Councilmember José Huizar, the two-hour meeting was attended by some 30 Highland Park residents “keen about making sure this park [… will] fit well into the neighborhood,” according to the 90042 blog devoted to Highland Park.

“If all goes as theoretically planned, we will have the most pimped-out city pocket park in Los Angeles,” the blog wagers. “Not everything will fit, but most of it will be part of the final plan” presented to the community at the 4956 York Blvd. site of the park on Saturday, Dec. 10.
