2. Kiwanis Club meeting
Mark your calendars: The Kiwanis Club of Highland Park is scheduled to hold its weekly board meeting tomorrow, Thursday, Oct. 17, at Milo Terrace Baptist Church Community Room, 754 N. Avenue 50, from noon to 1:30 p.m. The meeting is free; lunch is $5 at the door.
3. Neighborhood Council meeting
The Historic Highland Park Neighborhood Council is scheduled to hold its monthly board meeting on Thursday, Oct. 17, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Highland Park Adult Senior Citizen Center, located at 6152 N. Figueroa St. The meeting is open to the public and Highland Park residents are particularly encouraged to attend.
4. Congressman 'Still Dreaming'
Mark your calendars: Luis Gutiérrez, the 10-term Illinois U.S. representative, is scheduled to discuss his recent memoir, "Still Dreaming: My Journey From the Barrio to Capitol Hill," with Los Angeles Times columnist, radio host and Mount Washington resident Patt Morrison on Thursday, Oct. 17. Nicknamed “El Gallito" (Little Fighting Rooster), Gutiérrez is expected to reflect on his political awakening and how he went from being a cabdriver to an immigrants' rights leader. The event will be held downtown at the Mark Taper Auditorium, Central Library, 630 W. 5th St., 90071. Click here for reservations.
