Mt. Washington Town Hall Launches Gil Cedillo's 2013 Listening Tour

Tuck in at Tuesday's food truck feast on Figueroa and head over the hill.

1. Council District 1 Town Hall in Mount Washington

Council District 1's recently elected representative in City Hall, Gil Cedillo, is holding a district-wide "listening tour" whose very first stop will be in Mount Washington this evening. (No date has been confirmed yet, but there will be separate town hall for—and in—Highland Park). On Tuesday, July 30, Cedillo will host a town hall from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., in the Multipurpose Room of Mount Washington Elementary School, 3981 San Rafael Ave., (323) 225-8320.

2. "Fig Pro" Food Truck Tuesday

From Lomo Arigato and Mandoline Grill to The Beignet Truck and Cool Cow Dessert Bar, more than two-dozen of L.A.'s roving food trucks gather every Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the former Figueroa Produce landmark near the 99 Cents store on the northeast side of Figueroa Street and York Boulevard. While only a handful of the players are regulars—India Jones and Frankens, the 100-percent plant-based mobile cuisine, to name two.—almost all of them are on Twitter and/or Facebook, where, however, they don't always announce their plans. 6312 N. Figueroa St.

3. One more day left to join the Historic Highland Park Neighborhood Council

Wednesday, July 31, is the deadline for open application period for candidates who wish to volunteer as At-Large Directors on the Historic Highland Park Neighborhood Council. Ideal candidates are those that have the drive and desire to represent the neighborhood to City Hall and to make the community a better place. For more information about the HHPNC, applicant qualifications and the selection process, call HHPNC President Monica Alcaraz at (323) 445-5865 or write her at monica.alcaraz@highlandparknc.com.
