Park Planning—and Pizza in the Park

1. Avenue 50 and York Boulevard Park planning workshop

The first planning workshop for a proposed park on the corner of Avenue 50 and York Boulevard in Highland Park is scheduled on Thursday, Aug. 8, at 7 p.m. in the Burbank Middle School Multipurpose Room, 6460 N. Figueroa St. Hosted by the office of Councilmember José Huizar, the event will be the first in a series of workshops in which residents, business owners, and others can help design the park. The Mount Washington Local Issues Committee of the Arroyo Seco Neighborhood Council is hosting a “Pizza in the Park” meeting on Thursday, Aug. 8, at 6:30 p.m. at the Cleland Avenue Bicentennial Park, located at 4800 Cleland Ave., 90042. The idea is to further discuss some of the ideas that community members generated during Councilmember Gil Cedillo’s July 30 Mount Washington Town Hall.

The California Department of Public Health requires all students between grades 7 and 12 to show proof that they have received Pertussis Booster immunizations (TDAP), which protect against diphtheria, tetanus, and whooping cough. Make sure your child has received this booster shot before the first day of school, which is Aug. 13 in the case of Franklin High.
