Photo: Union Bank Clock an Hour Behind

What's the big deal? Read on.

The time was 3:55 p.m. on Tuesday, but the clock on the Union Bank building overlooking the intersection of Figueroa Street and York Boulevard was an hour and two minutes behind. While that appears to be nothing more than a failure to keep abreast of Daylight Saving Time, the irony is that Union Bank is a Japanese bank. And everybody knows how time-conscious folks are in the Land of the Rising Sun—a bullet train that's two minutes late tends to be the stuff of the evening's headline news.
