1. National Night Out

National Night Out, celebrated by more than 37 million people in 15,000 communities across the United States, Canada and U.S. military bases worldwide, will be marking the 30th anniversary Tuesday of police-community partnerships, crime prevention activities and neighborhood solidarity. As in 2012, a celebration is planned from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Cypress Park for all Highland Park-Mount Washington residents. CD 1 Councilmember Gil Cedillo is scheduled to attend, along with Los Angeles Police Department Northeast Division Capt. 2. HHPNC Land Use Committee Meeting

The Historic Highland Park Neighborhood Council Land Use Committee meets Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. to discuss a range of key local issues. Among them:

• Garvanza residents and stakeholders will present a traffic safety plan for the corner of Avenue 64 and Church Street, where a bicyclist was killed in June.
• Expansion plans at Maximiliano.
• Historic-cultural designation of the former Shoppers Market Building located at 133 W. Ave. 45, in Sycamore Grove.

The HHPNC Land Use Committee meeting will be held at Hathaway Sycamore Family Resource Center, 840 N. Ave. 66, 90042.

3. Reminder: Avenue 50 and York Boulevard Park planning workshop

The first in a proposed series of planning workshops for a public park on the corner of Avenue 50 and York Boulevard in Highland Park is scheduled on Thursday, Aug. 8, at 7 p.m. in the Burbank Middle School Multipurpose Room, 6460 N. Figueroa St. Hosted by the office of Councilmember José Huizar, the event is aimed at getting ideas from residents, business owners and others to help design the park.
