2 Arrested on DUI Charges at Weekend Sobriety Checkpoint on Palm Avenue
Five vehicles of 974 seen were impounded during the operation that also checked for expired driver's licenses.

Two people were arrested late Friday or early Saturday on drunken driving charges as the Imperial Beach Sheriff’s Station conducted a checkpoint in the 900 block of Palm Avenue, authorities said.
Some 974 vehicles passed through the DUI sobriety / driver’s license checkpoint between 8:30 p.m. Friday and 2:30 a.m. Saturday, said sheriff’s Sgt. Laura Spang.
The checkpoint was staffed by about 14 deputies, aiming to remove impaired or unlicensed drivers from the roadway.
Thirty vehicles were directed into the secondary inspection area for further evaluation, and 10 citations were issued for suspended, revoked or no driver’s licenses.
Five vehicles were impounded during the operation, Spang said in a news release.Â
Funding for the operation was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
