'60 Minutes' Benghazi Report Named Error of the Year

A report on the Sept. 11, 2012 terrorist attack of the American consulate in Benghazi, Libya has won CBS News an Error of the Year Award from the Poynter Institute.

60 Minutes and CBS News were lied to by State Department contractor Dylan Davies and for a time failed to acknowledge criticism of the report, Poynter blogger Craig Silverman said. The news program also failed to disclose that a CBS company published the book of a main source in the report.

Tyrone Woods, one of four people killed in the attack, lived on Evergreen Avenue in Imperial Beach not far from the Imperial Beach Pier.

The New York Post's false identification of a man as a Boston Marathon bombing suspect was named an Error of the Year award runner up. 

The end-of-year recognition by Poynter's Regret the Error blog also gives awards for Best Correction, Best Apology and
