California 2020 Propositions

I researched the propositions on Cal Matters and provided the link below.

The partisan writing of the ballot is shameful. I researched the propositions on Cal Matters and provided the link below.

Prop 14: $5.5 Billion Bond Debt for Stem Cell Research: Vote No

I’ve got nothing against stem cell research - but I’m against taxpayer funding with bond debt - the drug companies can pay for their own research.

Prop 15: Alter Prop 13 to Increase Business Property Taxes: Vote No

Prop 13 only protects the few long-term businesses left in Cali. I’m voting no because I do not trust the government to tamper with our laws that were established to control the government.

Prop 16: Restore Affirmative Action: Yes

I didn’t realize that Affirmative Action was removed. What we have learned in the last couple years is that colleges throughout the country are selling degrees to the highest bidder. I think ‘poor’ should be included as a protected class.

Prop 17: Parolees Right to Vote: Yes

Parolees are allowed to hold Elected Positions and people in a vegetative state still have voting rights.

Prop 18: 17 Year Olds’ Right to Vote in Primaries & Special Elections: Yes

This allows kids to vote in primary and special elections if they will turn 18 years old before the General Election.

Prop 19: Property Tax Break on New Houses for 55 and up: No

“To fund that new tax break, it would curtail a separate tax break Californians may receive on homes inherited from parents and grandparents. “ Seniors can already carry their Prop 13 tax break to a smaller house.

Prop 20: Crackdown on Crime: No

“Require law enforcement to collect DNA samples from people convicted of certain misdemeanors — including shoplifting, forgery and illegal drug possession — to be stored in a state database.”

Nation wide; rape kits are not processed for years, but the government wants to start collected the DNA of shoplifters, which are mostly children. No.

Prop 21: Rent Control: No

NYC has government imposed rent control and NYC has the highest rents in the world. Government imposition into the private sector always increases the costs.

Prop 22: Prevent Reclassifying Gig Workers: Yes

The State Legislature reclassified gig workers as hourly employees, which caused Lyft and Uber to close their California operations. Newspapers were given a one-year extension to reclassify their home-delivery carriers, which are all gig workers.

Gig workers receive all of their pay and can take tax deductions not offered to hourly employees. Gig work pays per production, which creates an incentive. Taxi drivers will not be paid $30/hour with no fees collected and newspaper carriers will not be paid $100 to deliver $20 worth of newspapers. Most of the jobs will be eliminated.

Prop 23: Kidney Dialysis Clinic Rules: Yes

Frightening to realize that these clinics have been operating without a doctor on duty.

Prop 24: Create New State Agency to Enforce Privacy Laws: No

No more ‘agencies’, no more bloated bureaucracy.

Prop 25: Abolish Cash Bail: Yes

Holding poor people in jail cost the taxpayers’ money. If the person is safe enough to release on bail, then they are safe enough to release without a bail. And if they are not safe enough to release without a bail, then leave them in jail.
