IB's Cannabis Regulations Plagued with Reefer Madness
Do cannabis dispensaries attract crime or increased public safety concerns?
Well, according to creative report writing by San Diego’s x-Chief of Police Shelly Zimmerman, they absolutely do. That is, until Voice of San Diego drilled down into her trusted stats and found them to be a modern-day version of Reefer Madness.
On Sept. 11, 2017, just before taking her $898,000 retirement bonus, Chief Zimmerman testi-lied to the City Council that the city’s licensed and regulated dispensaries generated over 270 radio calls for crimes such as; “burglaries, robberies, thefts, assaults and shootings” but, VOSD's investigation found that more than a quarter of them were for addresses near marijuana businesses, not the dispensaries themselves.
VOSD’s Jesse Marx also discovered, “dozens of crank payphone calls to 911 operators made in the parking lot of complexes that house dispensaries and other businesses, dozens of false security alarms and even a couple requests to tow automobiles.”

--> 6 Bev Mo locations generated 702 calls for service, averaging 117 police calls per store.

On the other hand, Prop. 64 results were not ‘arranged’, they were counted and verified at over 62% of Imperial Beach voters approving the legalization of marijuana. Nevertheless, council members Bobby Patten, Lori Bragg, and even Ed Spriggs have all embraced the three kinds of lies as arguments against the will of the voters.
Next Wednesday, July 18, the council will decide if your Prop 64 vote is implemented in IB, if you want a local dispensary you’ll need to be at City Hall at 6pm to remind them that stats are stats, but your vote is what counts.
