Grandmother Killed In Collision With Street-Racing Suspect
Martha Villalobos Romo of San Diego died at the scene of the accident in a South Bay neighborhood.
SAN DIEGO, CA — Authorities Monday publicly identified a 57-year-old woman killed in a traffic crash allegedly caused by a street-racing suspect driving on the wrong side of the road in a South Bay neighborhood.
Martha Villalobos Romo of San Diego was driving her grandchildren through Chula Vista about 6 p.m. Saturday when her Nissan Altima was struck by a Ford Mustang whose driver ran a red light at L Street and Third Avenue while allegedly engaging in a speed contest with third driver, according to police.
Villalobos Romo died at the scene of the accident. Paramedics took her grandchildren, ages 7 and 10, to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The driver of the Mustang, Alonso Pina, 22, was arrested.
"Pina is currently hospitalized for (apparently) non-life-threatening injuries and, upon release, will be booked into county jail for vehicular manslaughter," CVPD Lt. Dan Peak said.

The driver of the second car involved in the alleged illegal street race -- believed to be a white Subaru WRX -- fled following the collision and remains unidentified and at large, the lieutenant said.
