IB City Council Candidate Called-Out for Unethical Grandstanding

RE: San Diego mayor's military liaison is holding events in Imperial Beach — where she's running for council

Darnisha Hunter, a right-wing republican employee of San Diego's Mayor, is running for City Council in IB, but until she decided to run for the position she was largely unheard-of in the local community.

Last year, candidate Hunter suddenly joined various city groups, including the Imperial Beach Historical Society and the newly formed Imperial Beach Lions Club, offering assistance wherever and whenever she could.

For the Sun & Sea Festival, candidate Hunter graciously offered to lead the IB Lions Club and carry the group's banner while she boasted to all that she arranged for the Coast Guard fly-over.

In The San Diego Union Tribune article released today titled; "San Diego mayor's military liaison is holding events in Imperial Beach — where she's running for council", the UT's Military and Veterans reporter Andrew Dyer clearly calls-out Hunter for appearing unethical by grandstanding and for opportunism when he writes,

On July 25, Hunter promoted the Facebook page “Military Youth School Bash” and an event of the same name, on her personal Facebook account.
The bash is billed as a “backpack giveaway” for K-12 students. It advertises food, games and prizes and says veteran and active duty community services will be available.
A graphic advertising the event features the logos of corporate and community sponsors, such as the American Legion, Palm West Real Estate and Mental Health Systems.
Featured most prominently is the logo for the city of San Diego, and the line “Sponsored by Darnisha Hunter, Active Duty & Veteran Liaison.”

"Sponsored by Darnisha Hunter", really? If the San Diego Mayor's office is holding a backpack giveaway to benefit military children with San Diego tax money, how is the event sponsored by candidate Hunter?

Offering ones assistance is both admirable and noble, but only when the assistance is genuine and without a hidden political agenda.

If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, there's probably a Hunter around...

If candidate Hunter loses her bid for city council, I expect she'll disappear just as fast as she appeared.

Hunter reminds me of another candidate 10 or so years ago that blew into town with lots money, advertisements, and really ugly tee-shirts that many local homeless folks wore for a year after the election... The candidate had a long last name... does anyone remember that guy?
