ICYMI: Leg Power, Seal Pups, Man With a Hatchet, and Stolen Guns

In case you missed it, here's a look at some of the top stories in the county this week, Oct. 20-26.

Carlsbad Patch

A group participating in the Bike MS Bay to Bay Tour came across a rider with MS whose legs were so cramped she could no longer pedal her bike. Arm in arm, Team SHOEBACCA came to the rescue to help the struggling woman complete the last 3 miles to the finish line in Carlsbad.

La Jolla Patch

Will a beach ban help protect seals birthing and weaning their pups at the Children's Pool in La Jolla? The latest proposal before the San Diego City Council prohibits people from going onto the beach during harbor seal pupping season. The city says the move is needed because people continue to harass the animals despite a rope barrier and warning signs. 

Coronado Patch

Police say three loaded guns and a rifle were stolen from a home on A Avenue in Coronado, along with $2,200 in cash. The weapons—a Ruger 357 Magnum, a Springfield XD 45, a Beretta PX4 Storm 9 mm, and a Smith & Wesson AR15 rifle—were in a safe, according to the police report. 

Ramona Patch

A combative man with a hatchet allegedly chased a stranger in Ramona, and was arrested after a struggle with sheriff's deputies Thursday morning. Devin Jones stands accused of slew of charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, vandalism, threatening a witness, theft and being under the influence of a controlled substance. 

Santee Patch

Deputies spent hours combing the area around Mast Park West Trail in response to a rumor that a homeless man was stalking women by the river. Sheriff's Capt. Lisa Miller says the sweep yielded no evidence of a stalker. Read Capt. Miller's comments, and safety tips for those who walk along the river trails.
