At Least 3 Hospitalized After Crash At South Bay Intersection

A speeding SUV collided with three other vehicles in Chula Vista's Otay Ranch neighborhood, police said.

CHULA VISTA, CA — At least three people were hospitalized with serious injuries after a speeding SUV collided with three other vehicles in Chula Vista's Otay Ranch neighborhood, police said Thursday.

The crash happened about 5:20 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of East Palomar Street and Santa Olivia Road, Chula Vista police Lt. Matt Smith said.

A man speeding in a black BMW SUV was heading westbound on Palomar Street in a lane designated for buses when the SUV struck at least three other vehicles, Smith said.

Footage from Fox5 showed the BMW SUV and another SUV with heavy front- end damage, while a plumbing van and a sedan had less severe damage.

Three people were taken to hospitals, including the BMW driver, and two people were treated at the scene, according to the Fox5.

None of the injuries were believed to be life-threatening, Smith said. Authorities were investigating whether the BMW driver was under the influence of alcohol.
