Angeles Crest Highway re-opens

Cal Trans announced this morning that Angeles Crest Highway (Highway 2 North) has re-opened.

While the true mountain and highway enthusiasts plied the 18 mile detour to reach their favorite destinations, many opted not to visit the forest during the road closure.

Rejoicing motorists and cyclists be advised - the road pattern through the region affectionately known as "the steps" has changed. Not quite a true chicane, the sweeping left-right-lefts are a little different in the area where the slide occurred. The physical road bed has been moved. You'll need to re-learn this portion, which for many is a favorite part of this technical road.

Newcomb's Ranch is open Friday through Sunday for breakfast and lunch, taking their last orders for food around 2 PM. They open at 9 AM on Friday and 7 AM on Saturday and Sunday.

New Century Motorcycles' satellite store inside Newcomb's Ranch is open Saturdays and Sundays.

Chilao School will host their last Moto Yoga workshop of the season on Sunday, October 27. The class is free/donation based and there is food and chair massage afterward, and depending on the availability of acupuncturist Dr. David Lee, there may also be acupuncture. Chilao School is located in Chilao Campground at mile marker 49.69 from Angeles Crest Highway. Follow the fire station and hand-painted Chilao School signs through the campground. The opening of the highway comes as the US Forest Service declares a state of Extreme Fire Danger in the Angeles National Forest. No campfires are allowed anywhere in the forest at this time. Weather will determine when this restriction is lifted.
