Care and Comfort for Youth at El Nido for Holidays 2020

Share Holiday cheer with youth alone during the Holidays

The Los Altos Auxiliary of Hathaway Sycanores is launching a holiday gift campaign to provide Holiday presents to the youth, ages 6 to 18, living at Hathaway Sycamores’ El Nido Residential Campus in northwest Altadena.

El Nido’s professional staff deliver inclusive, trauma-informed therapeutic services designed to stabilize behaviors so the young residents can heal, recover and achieve a permanent home solution. Los Altos volunteers offer year-round services that enhance the emotional and social lives of the youth.

According to Hilary Gregg, Co-President of Los Altos, “When my friends ask me what Los Altos does, I rattle off the many special healthy, “family-style” activities we provide the youngsters and the critically important things our fundraising purchases. But the bottom line is that we provide comfort and care to the children at El Nido who have have severe challenges that prevent them from safely living at home or in other foster placements. The last 8 months have been extremely isolating for the youth and the Holiday season will be especially hard—unless together we provide comfort and care for them.”

“It is simple! We are asking people to adopt a youth with a financial donation. We have a wish list from each child and we will do the shopping for the donor! Or they can pick out a gift themselves onine. Wee will let them know about the youngster and exactly what we bought,” explained Mary Van Amringe, Co-President of Los Altos.

Joe Ford, Senior VP, Hathaway Sycamores commented, “Los Altos continues to provide for our youth, during the holidays and all year long. The holidays are particularly challenging for our youth as instead of being with family and enjoying all of the festivities they’ve known since childhood, they are away due to no fault of their own. The smiles and joy they receive from Los Altos’ efforts at providing gifts, treats and more are priceless and will stay with them at the moment received and when they are going through the hard times in the future.”
