Community Center's T-ball Team Wraps Up Season

Six teams totaling some 40 players participated this T-ball season. The community center hopes for even more players next year.

To the Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge, the 2013 T-ball season was a home run.

The center revamped its T-ball program at the beginning of spring to include more 4-6 year olds, more playing time and they added “Coach Andy” from Assist Athletics to oversee the season, Amanda Balcazar, the center’s program director said in a prepared statement.

“Adding Andy Chidester from Assist Athletics was the best decision the Community Center made,” Balcazar said.

“He brought a professional approach to the T-Ball practices, added new drills and really worked one-on-one with the kids to introduce them to T-Ball,” she added.

More than 40 players participated to make up six teams – the Purple Princesses, Yellow Ninjas, Fiery Lava, Blue Robot Super Sharks, Moon Crank Crocodiles, and Orange Cheetahs. Spectators came out in droves to watch the practices – the upper FIS field on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons was filled with players, parents, grandparents and siblings.

The community center recruited local student volunteers to be the coaches, said CCLCF Executive Cirector Deb Jordan. They taught the young ballplayers how to throw, catch, stop the ball, run and bat.

"We are lucky to have such volunteer spirit in our junior and high school students from Rosemont, Crescenta Valley, Flintridge Prep, and La Cañada High School,'' she said.

All of the players were given T-Ball trophies and the community center along with Coach Andy hosted a pizza party.

“We are looking forward to growing our program next spring,” Balcazar said.
