Equine Art raffle features one of a kind model

Laurel A. Haig's donation to Models in the Mountains 2021 is being raffled to support Redbird, art programs at Chilao School

This one of a kind, hand painted Breyer model is what's called a custom in the model horse hobby. The model is a traditional scale (1/9) Breyer horse, Sue Sifton's Flash sculpt, and it is as beautiful as it is unique. It is being raffled - tickets $1.00 each with no purchase limit - to support teh upcomig Models in the Mountains Model Horse Show and Artist Retreat held at Chilao School April 30-May 2. The raffle ends at midnight on April 25 and the winner will be drawn on Friday, April 30.

The model depicts a Morgan horse and specifically, a very beloved schooling horse, a gelding named Flash, who was quite old by the time Sue Sifton was asked to sculpt the model for Breyer. So Sue made sketches on napkins and bits of paper as riding students, now adults, relived their memories of riding Flash.

Equine finish artist Laurel A. Haig painted this model using acrylics, both by hand and with an airbrush, to a lovely dappled apricot palomino. The colors is complex, the transitions smooth, the model signed on the belly including the show to which it was donated and the date created.
