Equine sculpture workshop with Susan Sifton returns to La Canada

Susan Sifton will return to Chilao School on Friday, June 15 for the opening day of Models in the Mountains 2018; a model horse enthusiast's retreat, creative workshop and show celebrating its fourth year. Susan has been coming since the first show in 2015, sharing her love of all things animal and her talent with all things malleable.

Perhaps best known for her work with Breyer Animal Creations, Sue is the artist who was commissioned to do a portrait of American Pharoah, and her sculpts for Breyer remain among the most popular horse models.

There is still room for more attendees on Friday. All skill levels are welcome. Participants can come with a piece they are working on, or with a bare armature and the sculpting material of their choice, or simply their bare hands. Sue will bring a variety of materials for people to try. A $20.00 donation covers instruction and lunch.

Chilao School is located off of Highway 2 (Angeles Crest Highway) in the Angeles National Forest. From La Canada, take Highway 2 north 26 miles to Chilao Campground, turn left into the campground and follow the signs to Chilao School. Temperatures for Friday are predicted to reach a high of 75 and a low of 49 in Chilao; very pleasant mountain weather.

You can view some of Sue's sculptures - including several of her personal line of resin-cast horses, at the La Canada Flintridge Public Library through June 30.
