Identity Thief Charges $8K on LCF Resident's Credit Card

A La Cañada resident reported to Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station that an unidentified person went on a shopping spree with her credit card at the Belagio Hotel in Las Vegas, dropping more than $8,000 at high-end designer stores.

The 33-year-old woman told deputies that the thief used her Discover card on May 11 to buy $3,500 worth of merchandise at Louis Vuitton, as well as $4,540.20 in goods at the Dior Store, according to a police report. She'd only had the credit card for two days, as an unauthorized online purchase for $400 occurred on May 9. So she canceled that card and ordered the one that arrived May 11.

It appears two cards had been sent to her, and one of them was lifted from her mailbox, the report states. Representatives from both Louis Vuitton and Dior told authorities they should have video footage of the person who made the fraudulent purchases.
