La Cañada Mustang-9 Tournament Team Advances to Pony Zone Tournament
Tournament featuring top eight squads from the western U.S. begins July 28 in Walnut.
The La Cañada Mustang-9 Tournament Team capped an exciting run through the 2011 Pony East Regional with a 12-11 come-from-behind win over Charter Oaks to claim the tournament title and clinch a berth in the Pony Zone Tournament beginning July 28 in Walnut. The Pony Zone Tournament pits the eight best teams from the Western United States, according to team coach Chad Walton.
La Cañada went 4-0 in the tournament, earning wins over Whittier Red, Rowland Heights, West Covina and Charter Oaks. In the championship game against Charter Oaks, La Cañada rallied from a two run deficit in the sixth inning to earn its second walk-off win of the tournament.
The championship is a first for a La Cañada Mustang-9 team in the history of the club.
