Lauren O'Leary, KC Mathews Headline All-CIF Squads

O'Leary takes Division 5 Player of the Year honors, while Mathews is named Coach of the Year.

Lauren O'Leary's success in the circle helped lead the Spartans to the ultimate team prize this season: A CIF-Southern Section Division 5 championship.

As of Monday, her pitching prowess earned her the ultimate individual honor. On Monday, the CIF-SS offices announced its All-CIF teams and O'Leary was named Player of the Year in Division 5.

O'Leary was the most dominate pitcher in the Rio Hondo League and the area this year, finishing the season with a 0.39 ERA and 237 strikeouts in 181 1/3 innings. She also twirled 15 shutouts for the season, including the Spartans’ 1-0 win over Beaumont in the title game.

O’Leary wasn’t the only who took home some hardware. Head coach KC Mathews won Coach of the Year honors after leading the Spartans to an undefeated season in the Rio Hondo League and a 26-3 overall record.

Senior shortstop Anna Edwards was also named to the All-CIF squad. Edwards was the Spartans’ top hitter this season, batting .471 and knocking 12 home runs and 31 RBIs on the season. Her solo home run against Beaumont was the championship game’s lone run.

Baseball All-CIF Division 6:

Royce Park, junior, (2.24 ERA, 56 1/3 innings, 62 strikeouts).

Softball All-CIF Division 6:

Denise van der Goot, senior, Flintridge Prep (1.18 ERA, 117 2/3 innings, 190 strikeouts).

Boys Volleyball All-CIF Division 5:

Kenyatta Smith, senior Flintridge Prep (198 kills, 73 blocks).
