Motorcycle skills are focus of track experience

Highway 2 Track Day named after most dangerous road in California

On November 22, Southern California motorcycle riders will have a chance to practice turning, braking, identifying apexes and getting comfortable with canyon conditions on Horse Thief Mile, a track designed to emulate canyon riding, at Willow Springs International Raceway in Rosamond, California (Kern County). Riders in the C group, the least experienced, can also take advantage of professional mentoring at no additional charge.

All rider experience levels are welcome, and so are all types of motorcycles.

It's called the Highway 2 Track Day because its inspiration comes from that iconic stretch of asphalt that bridges La Canada with Wrightwood through the Angeles National Forest...a stretch of asphalt that boasts more accidents than any other highway in the state.

Many of those accidents involve motorcycles, and curves. Navigating turns requires expertise and practice; something many riders don't have the opportunity to get enough of. When they come to the mountains to get that practice, there's a lot that can go wrong. Angeles Crest Highway is a technical road, meaning it requires advanced skills to safely navigate. There are elevation changes as the highway rises to nearly eight thousand feet, blind curves, decreasing radius turns, oncoming traffic, bicyclists, pedestrians, wildlife, rocks, sand and gravel...even the occasional fallen tree in the road.

The non-profit association Redbird is hosting the track day, the fourth even in the group's first season of providing on-track learning opportunities. The cost is $150.00. Complete details can be found on their Facebook event https://www.facebook.com/event...
