Mountain Man - Tanner Alan Giao on Riding and Racing

Tanner Alan Giao shares riding and racing insights learned on his journey from the Angeles National Forest to the race track

Back in the day...Tanner Alan Giao (Corina Roberts)

Join us on Sunday, May 26, 2019 at noon for an interactive discussion with Tanner Alan Giao, who followed his passion for riding motorcycles to racing them, about the skill sets every rider needs on the streets and canyons, and when it's time to take it to the track.

Tanner learned to ride on the Crest, and his talent and passion did not go unnoticed. It seemed like in a blink of an eye he was racing - and winning - races. But it's never that easy in real life unless you were born into a racing family, and Tanner wasn't.

All riders of all skill levels are welcome. We are particularly enthusiastic about meeting new riders. A suspension workshop with West Coast GP Moto may follow Tanner's presentation; please follow the Facebook event for announcements, road conditions and directions.

What: Free Motorcycle Technical Skills Workshop - Angeles National Forest, Los Angeles County, California

When: Sunday, May 26, 2019 at Noon
Where: Chilao School, in Chilao Campground, mile marker 49.69 on Angeles Crest Highway, Angeles National Forest

https://www.facebook.com/events/397734844375384/

THERE MAY STILL BE A DETOUR AROUND THE SLIDE ON THE CREST - IT IS SIMPLE AND VERY SCENIC. READ TO THE END FOR INSTRUCTIONS.

To reach Chilao School without the detour and with the detour:

Without: We are located in the heart of the Angeles National Forest. From Angeles Crest Highway (Highway 2 north) at mile marker 49.69, turn left into Chilao Campground and follow signs to Chilao School. We are located within the US Forest Service Chilao Campground across the road from the USFS Chilao Fire Station. Do not try to use GPS or Google to locate the school. If you are not familiar with the area, look at a map so you can orient yourself to the distance. We are 27 miles above La Canada Flintridge and less than 2 miles from Newcomb's Ranch Bar and Restaurant, within the campground area.

With: All of the above is the same except you will make a left on Angeles Forest Highway (there will be a ranger station on your left and an information kiosk and restrooms on your right. You can only turn left. Turn left). Stay on this road for about ten miles. You will go over a bridge, through a tunnel, through a small residential area and come out in mile 16 to a straight-away with another ranger station on your left. Just after the ranger station turn Right on Upper Big Tujunga Canyon. Go nine miles to the top. Turn Left on Angeles Crest Highway. You are back on track. Chilao Campground will come up in about six and a half miles. Print out or by some other means save these directions. You will not have cell service in the forest.
