Postcards from the Forest - spring fever

The weather changes erratically in this season. The snow becomes a memory. Green creeps into everything.

Today the wind blows, warm and dry. The conifer trees "smoke" with pollen pouring from their pre-cone flowers. The humidity plummets. Streams shrink back. The sky blazes blue wherever it is left alone to do so.

It's a beautiful time. It will quickly get a little warm for us, who love and welcome morning fog and clouds in the afternoon. It's a time driven by the rhythms of Nature, and the rhythm of spring is about rebirth.

This season tends to affect humans too...it's a time when many people find or yearn to find a mate. We can only get so far away from our own Nature. If you break us down to our basic elements, we need air, water, earth and sunshine; our internal clocks are governed by the blue sky, the sun and the dark of night.

Spring is also a time of forward motion for us two-leggeds, so right now, it's particularly frustrating, stifling, uncertain and uneasy to know that we may not be moving forward, as a state, for some time. It gives spring fever a little added fervor for me. Like the other millions of residents, I need to know what comes after May 15.

The planet, meanwhile, thrives on our world-wide cessation of business as usual.

I miss all that wonderful rain and snow already. Aquarius is actually an air element, or so I am told, often mistaken for a water element because of the water bearer symbology. I can attest to the air element factor...but I long for water more or less continuously.
