Postcards from the Forest - View from the Top

A thin but fresh layer of snow and frost graces the upper elevations

The day dawned clear and still after an early evening "snow"... popcorn snow, it is sometimes called, or frozen rain, or small hail. It melted quickly at 5,000 feet, but higher up, the melt was slower.

Frosted trees and a light cover of fresh snow greeted us as we neared Buckhorn, at an elevation of roughly seven thousand feet. Snow players and hikers were already there, enjoying an absolutely beautiful day.

Angeles Crest Highway is well maintained and there is a combination of gravel and sand where ice is common. Do keep an eye out for rocks that have fallen into the road. Altogether, it's a lovely drive.
