USFS Chilao Visitors Center Seeks Art
As the new season opens in the Angeles National Forest, Chilao Visitors Center seeks regional work for its community art display
Saturday, April 2 marks a day of celebration throughout the Angeles National Forest, with events taking place at a number of locations. In the heart of the newly designated San Gabriel Mountains National Monument, USFS Chilao Visitors Center will welcome the public with nature walks, Smokey Bear and a live animal exhibit, and a new display of forest-related art by local artists.
There is still space available in the exhibit area to house more work, and the USFS is looking for new art and artists to display.
Pieces are on display for a one year period. Artists are encouraged to supply the USFS with sales information if the pieces are for sale, but the agency cannot act as an agent; artists and potential buyers must make their own arrangements.

Work must be able to hang on a wall and can be any medium. Pieces should illustrate the local flora, fauna or scenery, or in the case of textiles such as basketry, be made from forest products. Art is needed by Sunday, March 27 so that it can be ready for display on Saturday, April 2. Interested artists should contact David J Cline: mailto:djcline@fs.fed.us
Visitors to Chilao will also find a unique blend of spirit and science at Chilao School with Bear and Butterfly, a free and family friendly gathering where guests will learn about these magnificent creatures from the Native American cultural perspective as well as a biological and scientific perspective. Guests will be able to get up close and personal with a living collection of monarchs in various developmental stages, learn about the spiritual place of the bear in the Native American way of life, meet with local wildlife advocates, view and purchase art from local artisans, and enjoy food and refreshments.
