Beach Hazard: Strong Currents, High Evening Tides In Laguna Beach

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — The National Weather Service has released a beach hazards statement for Orange County Beaches Tuesday through Thursday, they reported overnight.

Meteorologists tell us that high tides will bring the potential for minor tidal overflow and beach erosion along Orange County's beaches in the evenings Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

"Pooling of seawater is possible around high tide each day at beach and harbor areas," a spokesperson for the National Weather Service says. "Enhanced beach erosion is also expected."

There is no forecast calling for significant damage, they reported.

An evening high tide near 7 feet will occur between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. Tuesday, 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

The highest tides will occur Wednesday and Thursday nights.

During a Beach Hazard, swimmers should be aware of such threats as strong rip currents, elevated surf heights and minor tidal overflow.

If there are storms in the area during this time, lightning is possible at local beaches.

Obey posted warning signs and flags and talk to a lifeguard before swimming.

Use caution when in or near the water and always swim near a lifeguard.
