Gov. Gavin Newsom Orders All California Residents to Stay Home

Governor Gavin Newsom issued direction to all California residents to stay at home effective immediately.

Laguna Beach, CA — This evening, Governor Gavin Newsom issued direction to all California residents to stay at home effective immediately unless they are participating in “essential functions” like purchasing food, getting prescriptions or necessary health care, or going to an essential job. Vulnerable populations and residents age 65 and older must stay home. The order, issued by the California State Public Health Officer and Director of the California Department of Public Health is intended to slow the spread of COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) to California citizens.

According to the order, when people need to leave their homes or places of residence for essential functions, they should at all times practice social distancing. According to the state’s guidelines, social distancing means maintaining a six-foot separation from all persons except for family members.

Many establishments not covered in previous orders are ordered to cease operations that require in-person attendance by workers at a workplace. All individuals are to stay home except as needed to maintain continuity of operations of the federal critical infrastructure sectors.
