LAGUNA BEACH, CA — The girls of the Laguna Beach High School water polo team took home both CIF Southern Section, Division 1 and SoCal Regional Division 1 titles this weekend at the Segerstrom High School pool.

A 10-9 win in overtime in the regional semifinals vs. Newport Harbor showed their grit. By the time they reached Segerstrom, the girls and their coach had a moment, singing along with "Shallow," over the speakers before the CIF Southern California Regional Division I title game.

Matched against Bishop, the number 3 seed, Laguna Beach Breakers went seven goals in the second quarter, leading at halftime 10-4. The game's concluding score of 17-8 ended the LBHS water polo season with a record number of wins, according to the Daily Pilot. With 33 wins and one loss, they finished their unrelenting program with a splash.

According to coach Ethan Damato, he did his best to play as many girls as possible while holding on to the win.

"I'm really proud of this group," He told the Pilot. "We don't take days off. We don't take games off. It doesn't matter if it's a summer game or a regional championship game. They compete. That's what I asked of them this weekend, to come here and compete for each other. I thought they did a great job of that."
