Property Taxes Due Friday In Laguna Beach

What if you can't pay your property taxes in Orange County due to coronavirus-related financial issues? Here's what OC's treasurer says.

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — There is nothing that Orange County's treasurer-tax collector can do to delay property tax collection, so says Shari Freidenrich.

On Monday she announced that though the property tax deadline is Friday. Laguna Beach residents may apply for relief from late-payment fines if they can demonstrate their income was affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

The county has created a website to help taxpayers apply for financial support with loans, COVID19info.ocgov.com

"I understand and sympathize with the financial impacts that COVID-19 may have had on our taxpayers," Freidenrich said. "I also understand that the upcoming property tax payment may be one of the largest single expenditures that taxpayers make each year."

If a taxpayer can show economic hardship because of the coronavirus and cannot pay their bill on time then as soon as they are able to meet their obligation they can request a "penalty cancellation," her office said.

All requests for relief will be considered on a "case-by-case basis," her office reported.

How to pay property tax:
To pay your property tax and adhere to social distancing, the treasurer suggests you pay online.

Use the no cost eCheck (bank account) payment option that provides same day credit and an emailed or printed receipt at ocgov.com/octaxbill, and is secure once you get to the third party payment page.

Online: ocgov.com/octaxbill by credit/debit card (2.29 percent service fee)

IVR: 714 834-3411 by credit/debit card (2.29 percent service fee)

Dropbox: 601 N. Ross St. (with adjacent parking) by check, money order, cashier’s check, (no cash)
