See Humpback Whale 'Mugging' At Whale Watchers Off Laguna Beach
This week, a humpback whale frolicked off the coast of Laguna Beach and Dana Point. Whale watchers got an incredible view of whale playtime.

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — This week, whale watchers got an amazing view of a humpback whale who stopped by to say "hello."
Often, whales seem as curious at seeing people as whale watchers are at seeing the whales. In this case, the whale was "mugging" at the whale watchers, seen here in drone video, captured by Dana Wharf Whale Watching.

The mugging behavior also was captured by Captain Dave's Dolphin and Whale Safari whale watchers.
"These remarkable encounters reminded us of why humpback whales are one of the most awesome whales to view," a spokesperson from Captain Dave's said. "From pectoral slaps and also a 'mugging,' this humpback seemed to be having a blast. I know we were!"
